Sally Ryan
Sally Ryan is a contemporary realist painter, based in Sydney.
Her art practice encompasses various painting genres including still life, portraiture, figurative and narrative painting.
Sally began her training at the Julian Ashton Art School where she was awarded a scholarship year in 2010. She then further refined her skills by attending workshops at Studio Escalier (Paris), Grand Central Academy (NY) and Menorca Pulsar (Spain).
As a professional portrait painter, Sally has had her work recognised in numerous national and international competitions. She has been a finalist 3 times in the prestigious Archibald Portrait Prize and has also been recognised internationally, as a finalist in ARC Salon and Portrait Society of America competitions. In 2019 she was awarded Signature Status with the Portrait Society of America for excellence in portraiture.
She has commissioned works hanging in private collections as well as in Universities and Schools, the Parliament (of Victoria) and the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney (including St Mary’s Cathedral) within Australia.
In addition to her own practice, Sally is a passionate educator teaching traditional painting and drawing skills at Hamley Studio (in Sydney) as well as running workshops throughout Australia.
