Angeline Bartholomeusz

Trained initially as a scientist, with a PhD from Monash University, Angeline Bartholomeusz transitioned from a career in science and innovation management to full-time artistic practice in 2022. This scientific grounding continues to inform her approach to painting, where making operates as a form of inquiry guided by observation, testing and discovery.

Angeline’s practice is grounded in an ongoing engagement with nature, the environment and shared human experience, with a particular focus on memory and our connections to place, both natural and constructed. Extensive travel has shaped her artistic vision, bringing a rich mix of painterly and formal approaches informed by historical and cultural influences.

Through painting, her impressions of the Australian landscape, in both natural and urban contexts, are shaped by travel, reflection, memory and stories. These influences culminate in the colours, marks, layers and textures evident in her work.

Angeline’s work has received widespread recognition, including awards and finalist selections across Australian art prizes such as the Doyles Landscape Prize, the National Capital Art Prize and the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize.
