Response from bead makers and gallery enthusiasts was so positive, we had to do it again! Opening on Saturday, August 18th, Once Upon A Bead will show the diversity of the bead as an art form at its best, representing national and international artists who have a significant history with the art bead movement. Explore the diversity of the contemporary beading community, its creative and technological advances. Learn how all encompassing the true definition of “bead work” is and the methods today’s artists are employing, from lampwork glass and mixed media to polymer and just about any material that is non-toxic. This exhibit will give the viewer a tremendous overview of what exciting new ideas are happening in the contemporary beading community. Also included in the exhibition will be finished work, either jewelry or sculpture, by the bead artists. Artists include Carolyn Baum, Debra Dowden-Crockett, Alicia Felton, Margie Huebner, Heather Martin, Guy Melamed, Mary Mullaney, Lisa Peters, Laurie Salopek, Cynthia Saari, Kim Typanski and Deborah Weaver. Lisajoy Sachs, jeweler, bead maker and teacher, curates this popular show. The show runs through September 30. Artists’ reception will be Saturday, August 18, from 4-6 pm. Located on Main Street in the village of Hunter, NY. Gallery hours are: Mon/Thurs/Fri 11-6, Sat 10-6, Sun 10-5. Call (518) 263-2060 or go to www.catskillmtn.org for more information.
